This is a picture of an old gas station taken in the 1940's. The
station belonged to my grandfather, and you can see him standing out
front by the gas pump. He would wash your windshield, check your oil,
and check your tire pressure as he filled your car with gas. I have to
admit that I am often nostalgic for the old days where Mom and Pop
businesses took pride in their premium customer service. Something has
been lost when those working in stores are minimum wage college
students, who really do not care at all about the customer or the job.

California Girl
This photograph was taken in 1942, and shows a young woman with a suitcase standing on the street in Hollywood California. I don't
have any other information on the picture. I wonder though if it might
be a girl from Kansas who took a bus to California in hopes of becoming a
movie star. Just my imagination at work probably.
Feather Hat
This hat is obviously got some sort of large bird feather in it . . . I wonder what bird the feather comes from. It really looks to be a very big feather.
Straw Hat
Finally, a hat that I like. I think that this simple straw hat and
simple clothes are the most attractive that we have seen all week.
Certainly this is a posed picture of a model dressed as a peasant woman,
but nonetheless we can see that a person can still look nice in simple
clothes.
Relax and Recreation
With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season upon us, we must
remember to take time to relax. So, here at OPOD we will be having
"Relax and Recreation" week. What better way to start than with this
picture of a little girl fishing. It also follows Hat Week well, as the
little girl is sporting a dandy fishing hat. The picture was taken in
1920.
